This coming-of-age story from the celebrated Zimbabwean writer Shimmer Chinodya gives a moving account of growing up as an orphan. Fourteen year-old Tamari faces the usual struggles of adolescence, along with having to care for her brother, look after the house, and deal with her rapacious uncle. Despite the alien setting, the story is full of detail about the travails and injustices of teenage life which any teenager can relate to.
