World Wetlands Day

Taking place on 2nd February every year.

Raising public awareness of the values and benefits of wetlands.

Updated 1 year ago

2 February is designated World Wetlands Day to mark the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Further information is available on the Ramsar Convention website (you can find World Wetlands Day listed in the 'activities' section). Each year, World Wetlands Day focuses on a different theme. The theme for 2018 is Wetlands for a Sustainable Urban Future - encouraging us all to view urban wetlands as a precious and prized resource rather than a wasteland. Find out more from the infographic below; and check out additional resources on the World Wetlands Day web page. Do you have any wetlands near your school? Why not take your pupils there on a visit? For ideas on marking this Day in your school, you could read through our article on Water, or browse through resources listed under the topic of 'water'. World Wetlands Day 2018 infographic
