Kate Jones from the Climate Coalition encourages primary schools and teachers to get creative about climate change this Valentine's Day.
This February, the Climate Coalition's For the Love of... campaign is encouraging schools across the UK to Show the Love.
On Valentine's Day, people around the UK will be making and displaying green hearts to show that what they love that could disappear or change because of climate change. In the lead up to Valentine's Day, you could get your pupils to start thinking about all the things they love and want to protect. Then they can craft little messages of love on green hearts and display them on trees – for all to see.
There's a great free pack available to download with curriculum linked lesson plans, assembly ideas and activities for primary school children. This supports them to learn how many things we love can be affected by climate change and what role we – and the trees – can play in fighting it.
It also includes games and activities for eco-clubs, and you can order green heart stickers for your class by emailing campaigns@theclimatecoalition.org.
Your pupils will be be joining community groups, Premiership football clubs, artists, singers, poets, astronauts and hundreds of thousands of people across the UK all showing their love for the people, places and life they want to protect from climate change.
Your school could also enter a competition by sending in a picture of all your green hearts, reflecting and learning around climate change and helping to create visibility and raise awareness in the community.
