This teaching resource from Oxfam is based around a short film, part of Oxfam’s Stand as One campaign which asks the public to stand in solidarity with people forced to flee.
Background information is provided about the film and about refugee issues. There are also accompanying teaching ideas to enable 8-14 year-olds to think about our similarities and what we all need to have a good life. The aim is to build empathy with refugees and imagine what it would be like to leave everything behind. Pupils are encouraged to explore:
- How are we the same? How are we different?
- Needs and wants
- Watching the film clip
- Put it into words (using the film transcript as a stimulus to create poems)
- What would you take with you if you had to leave home?
