This book introduces the topic of sustainable development through looking at plants in everyday products. It takes every-day items (soap, shampoo, breakfast cereals, etc), looks at the plant products they contain (eg: aloe vera, palm oil, sugar) and considers sustainability issues surrounding them.
The book is suitable for upper primary teaching, and gives examples of lessons and activities carried out in a number of different primary schools. There are examples of children’s work throughout the book, and a commentary from teachers who have tested the activities, with tips for which aspects worked, and which didn’t.
The activities are creative and varied, and because the format focuses on individual examples (rather than generic worksheets) there is something for all ability levels within years 3 to 6.
