This pack includes six activities for use in secondary schools, post-16 and youth settings to explore peace and nuclear issues. Students can explore:
  • the effects of a nuclear explosion - using a timeline and personal testimony
  • concepts about conflict, both in the context of a school and on the international stage
  • the Chernobyl disaster and its aftermath, including the people and countries affected
  • Mordechai Vanunu, whistleblower on Israel's nuclear weapon programme - traitor or hero?
  • peace symbols - messages conveyed by logos, symbols and body language
  • "The Bomb Factor" - arguments for and against keeping nuclear weapons.
CND have taken a very imaginative, active-learning approach with this pack. It enables students to investigate a range of arguments, including opinions that may not be their own, and consider these controversial issues in an engaging and interactive way, developing their critical thinking and enquiry skills.
