An excellent handbook which suggests ways of using storybooks to explore feelings, experiences and issues with young children. A variety of tried and tested activities are illustrated with a range of stories.
Three approaches are exemplified. In one, a single book ‘Alex and Roy’ is used to raise a range of issues. In another, a whole range of story books are used to explore the environment. In the third, stories are introduced in theme work entitled ‘Out and About’ which initially seemed to offer few opportunities for this approach.
A useful list of children’s books with a grid of themes is included at the end of the handbook.
