Archbishop Oscar Romero was assassinated in El Salvador on March 24, 1980 because his commitment to those living in poverty led him to speak out against injustice. To commemorate the 30 years since Romero’s assassination, the Catholic aid agency CAFOD have brought together a range of film clips which tell the story of his life and outline CAFOD’s work in El Salvador today.
All clips are in Spanish with optional English subtitles, for use by RE and/or Spanish teachers. There are also teachers’ notes, transcripts of the film clips, a photo gallery of El Salvador, and a timeline of Romero’s life.
A great way for students to find out about life in El Salvador, get to understand the work of an aid agency, and explore issues of social justice.
