How fairly would your learners treat their citizens if they could run their very own country? In this online, interactive game from Oxfam, Republic of You, learners create their own nations, take on the role of leader and decide whether to listen to their advisors. They come face to face with real world issues like tax, wages and how you pay for essential public services, and are asked to make policy decisions on key areas affecting their citizens’ lives, such as health, education and the world of work.
The game gives learners the opportunity to compare inequality in their imaginary country with those of their classmates and the real world.
There are also accompanying teaching resources (provided as PDFs and a PowerPoint slideshow), which encourage learners to think critically about inequality and consider different perspectives.
