Primary Assemblies for the Global Dimension

40 ready-to-use assemblies

KS1: ages 5-7KS2: ages 7-11Teacher's PackCD-ROM

This pack includes a wide range of primary assemblies which cover all eight key concepts of the global dimension. They are grouped into the following 10 chapters:

  • Mi casa, su casa – celebrating cultural differences
  • Our changing planet
  • Flashpoints
  • Trying to be green
  • Global families
  • Water
  • Making a difference
  • International jobs
  • Grand designs
  • Arts and cultures

Each assembly tries to draw out the emotional, moral and spiritual aspects of the stories they tell. So the stories are about people – the student on a gap year, the farmer trying to sell his bananas, the international artist whose stage is the whole world. We consider their problems, their feelings, the ups-and-downs of their lives. A short prayer is suggested at the end of each one, but this is not linked to any particular religion.

If you’re running out of ideas for assemblies this has a wealth of examples completely “ready to run with” which should serve as inspiration for several months to come. (My only tiny criticism is that the ‘Digging wells in Africa’ assembly doesn’t tell you which of Africa’s 50-odd countries they are talking about!)
