This set of free online resources provides the basis of an hour-long workshop for students aged 16 and over to improve understanding of poverty, its causes, effects and what can be done to tackle it.
Why, in a world of plenty, are so many people around the globe living in desperate poverty? What does poverty mean for people – and what causes it? By the end of this session, students will have engaged with different approaches to defining global poverty and will have considered some of the solutions that could bring about a world free from poverty.
Resources include video clips, a PowerPoint presentation including case studies of people living in poverty, and teachers’ notes outlining in detail how the session is to be run. The session would fit into RE, Geography or Citizenship lessons.
