This award for schools in Wales is designed to encourage a whole school approach to education for sustainable development and global citizenship. The award uses topics to develop a sustainable development approach in curriculum work, pupil participation, school improvement, monitoring and community links.
Suggested topics are water, bio-diversity, energy, transport, waste and litter, healthy living, global citizenship and community citizenship. Each topic needs to contain a global perspective. There are three award levels that can be reached depending on how many topics are completed – a bronze award, silver award and the gold award for Sustainable Schools. Curriculum maps, baseline audits and action plan forms are available for schools who join the scheme and one Inset (Networking Day) is held each term for primary schools and one summer Inset day is available for secondary schools.
