This teaching manual contains information about human development issues and policy with specific examples of development projects in Africa and guidance about how to teach young children about development co-operation. It consists of 16 storyboards that follow the experiences of Mathias, an 8-year-old boy, who dreams about going to Africa. He meets another child, Amadou, and learns about some of the challenges faced by developing countries including education, health, food and transport.
The resource gives a brief description of the teaching approaches to introduce this subject within the primary school. It may be useful to focus on a specific development issue in more depth and supplement with additional material.
The manual is available on-line in 10 European languages (including English, Italian, French and Spanish) facilitating work on development education within Modern Foreign Languages.
