This Oxfam resource provides photographs and quotations from children living in Mukuru, a slum area in Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi. Ten children were asked: “What would you do if you were president for the day?”, and they talk about that, and their hopes for the future. An Oxfam staff member also provides an account of life in Mukuru slum and the children she met there.
Teachers can use these materials as they wish, but there are also suggestions for five simple activities suitable for an assembly or tutor group session, where learners think about what they would do if they were prime minister for a day. The resource is suitable for ages 7 to 14.
