One of a series of termly activity kits for members of Think Global’s Schools Network. Available to members each term, each issue of The global dimension in my classroom includes a range of activities, lesson ideas and more to help you explore global connections.
This kit is targeted at Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11). There are many ways to bring a global dimension into the classroom at primary school level by exploring homes, houses and the way people live in different places around the world. Focusing on what home means to us, why we all need one, or different types of homes across the world, relates to themes such as human rights, diversity and what we all have in common.
- The ‘Getting started’ section provides introductory activities for students to develop their understanding of what ‘home’ means.
- The ‘Getting critical’ section supports pupils in comparing the diversity and similarity of homes around the world, including Latin America, and in exploring the idea of home as a human right.
- The ‘Resources’ section provides a list of story books and other useful resources on the theme of ‘home’.
