Football and Freedom is an online resource pack from the NUT bursting with fun and informative teaching resources and activities for teaching children about South Africa through football. It enables teachers to use the excitement around the World Cup 2010 as a motivation for learning about South Africa.
Although this pack has been produced for the World Cup year, most of the materials can be used at any time for teaching about South Africa. The activities are appropriate for Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, (ages 7-16) but can be adapted for use across other age ranges. Activities range from quizzes and role play exercises to numeracy tasks, research and designing football grounds and posters. Activities address a wide range of National Curriculum subject areas and are separated into five chapters according to topic:
- Getting to know South Africa
- Fan culture
- Life in the new South Africa
- World Cup venues
- Linking to a school in South Africa.
