In this maths teaching resource from Amnesty International, a short film from Sierra Leone is used to introduce students to the human rights issue of death during childbirth.
Students learn key mathematical skills to graphically represent data from around the world, comparing reasons for levels of maternal mortality in different countries and geographic regions.
The resource supports students in:
- interpreting and representing information
- becoming aware of global comparisons between the enjoyment and violations of human rights
- considering how global inequalities could be improved.
