A selection of starters, filler activities and homework exercises to stimulate students’ interest in a variety of topics and add freshness to your teaching. They are available on the British Red Cross website, and can be used for upper primary and secondary teaching.
They present real-life situations and ask pupils to explore what they would do at different points in the story. As well as the story itself, the notes also include suggested questions and ideas for written projects and further discussion. New activities are added regularly – a selection of the activities currently available include:
- Refugee welcome – researching and speaking a few foreign phrases to welcome refugees in their own language
- Emergency bingo – raising awareness of some key aspects of emergencies.
- Attacks on health care – understand that the protection of humanity in war requires commitment to firm principles and can pose challenging dilemmas.
- Decide in a Crisis – explore options for making decisions under pressure, with a range of activities based around dramatic wildfire evacuations from Alberta, Canada.
