The British Museum has created a set of online PowerPoint resources for primary Key Stage 1 (ages 4-6) which explore colour, pattern and two-dimensional shapes using artefacts from the museum’s collection.
- 2D shape – from beautiful mosaics to textiles, coins and even a Bedouin camel decoration
- Pattern – around the world from New Zealand to North America, including shape and symmetry
- Colour – Chinese dragons, Anglo-Saxon brooches and Japanese waves all introduce different uses of colour
They show how ancient cultures used colour, pattern and shape in order to make sense of the world around them. Great for maths concepts and for art & design as well.
