The British Museum has brought together a range of secondary Art & Design teaching resources that explore items featured in the museum’s collection. There are PDF teachers’ guides to:
- sculpture; and
These can be used to support a visit to the museum or in the classroom using the museum’s online collection.
As well as being relevant to Art & Design, there are also links to Citizenship, Geography, History and Religious Education.
Online ‘tours’ of the collection – self-guided but with support notes for teachers – include ‘Stories from Bengal’, and ‘Changing Face’ (about masks). There is also a detailed presentation on African masks, and another on sacred objects from the Pacific. And students can explore highlights from the museum’s online database of 4,000 objects.
It is likely that more resources will be added as new exhibitions cover different Art & Design themes.
