Free online teaching resources from Film Education based on the film Africa United, which was released in the UK on 22 October 2010.
The film tells the story of three Rwandan children and their bid to achieve their ultimate dream – to take part in the opening ceremony of the 2010 Football World Cup in Johannesburg. Film Education’s teaching resources about this film explore representations of Africa, developing visual literacy and critical thinking skills and reflecting on themes such as relationships and risk. They also look into the context of the film production, and its beginnings as an idea of Rwandan filmmaker Eric Kabera, who wanted a film which showed Rwanda in a different light from the stories about the 1994 genocide.
