21 June every year: Celebrating music through public performances and free concerts.
The Fête de la Musique began in France in 1982, using the occasion of the Summer Solstice (21 June) to celebrate music through street performances and free concerts. Since then it has gradually spread to many cities and countries worldwide and is becoming known as World Music Day.
You could take the opportunity presented by World Music Day to hold a musical event at your school, and/or explore music from different cultures. You can find teaching resources by browsing through the ones listed in our database under the Music subject heading.
