Winner announced on 1 May 2013
The overall winner of the Competition was Caroline Chisholm School from Northampton, with Hutchesons' Grammar School from Glasgow the runners up.
We are proud to present the entries from the five finalists of the
Shape the Future competition. The competition has been running since January, offering Key Stage 3 students from across the UK a chance to submit their ideas on what should happen when the Millennium Development Goals come to an end in 2015.
We were overwhelmed with the interest and enthusiasm from schools and have been greatly impressed by the high standard of entries produced by students. Entries came from across the country and the panel of judges was very busy over the Easter holidays watching them all.
The five finalist groups spent a day working with experts from Oxfam, the Geographical Association and the Department for International Development to refine their ideas before the winner was chosen. David Cameron will view the winning entry before co-chairing the final UN High Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda in May 2013.
Thank you to all of the staff and students who took part.

Here are just a few of the things teachers have said:
"The students have absolutely loved the process ….I have to say the passion and ambition they displayed made me feel that there is hope for the future."
"(Students) have really enjoyed the research aspect and sharing ideas, so much so they have come in on the first day of their holidays to make the final touches!"
"We had a number of fantastic entries, but this was chosen by the students as most appropriate, because the others went over the 5 minute limit because they had been so engaged in the competition."
"I have carried this out as a class activity over the last two weeks of term and have been really impressed by the way 9MF have reacted to the importance of getting involved in such a globally important topic."
"We hope you enjoy our film. The students found this project both engaging and inspirational."
"I was very inspired to watch all of the ideas unfolding in my classroom and found it difficult to choose. Observing the reaction from my students reminded me happily why I chose to be a geography teacher so thank you."
And, last word from a student: "We look forward to hearing from you soon, as our whole aim for this competition is to improve lives- it’s not about the prize for us!" |
