Think Global through P4C 5-7 7-11 Booklet

This booklet is the result of a two-year DFID-funded project that used Philosophy for Children (P4C) as a methodology to engage children in thinking and talking about global issues. The project involved primary teachers using a range of resources as stimuli for enquiry and this publication contains examples of some of the most successful stimuli used.

The project explored how these enquiries can be used to provide opportunities for active citizenship by linking the use of specific stimuli to global dates and campaigns. It is hoped that other teachers will be inspired by this publication and will be encouraged to use and replicate the ideas and examples for themselves.

After an intial introduction to the methodology of P4C, the booklet highlights 19 different resources, including story books and photo packs. For each resource there are suggestions for the key global dimension concepts that it explores, as well as global dates and campaigns that it can link to. There are also quotes from teachers throughout, and questions from children that have provided the starting points for philosophical enquiry.

This booklet is a useful starting point for teachers wanting to use story books as a stimulus to explore global issues with young children.
