Young Diasporas - Longing and belonging
Life stories of young people who have made Britain their home
This book is built around the stories of young people who live in Kent, but have roots in and connections with other parts of the world. Like everyone else, they have dreams, aspirations and difficulties. They long for a normal life; they want to belong.
It contains stories of kindness and solidarity, but also stories of tension, racism, bullying and violence that make the heart sink. What lifts it right back up is the refusal to let courage, spirit and optimism be dented. By raising awareness, challenging common misconceptions and highlighting similarities, while at the same time celebrating diversity, this book aims to promote understanding, appreciation and respect of different cultures.
Includes a CD-ROM, with the full text, plus references to online resources and extensive teaching notes.
Useful for teachers of Citizenship, English and Personal Development at Key Stages 2 and 3.
