African Initiatives is a social justice organisation that promotes the rights of all people to fully participate in the decision-making processes that affect their lives. Its education programmes are dedicated to raising awareness of development issues, interdependence, sustainability and promoting positive images of the developing world.
African Initiatives delivers development education projects with schools and education providers which address global issues and feed into national initiatives, policies and whole school awards. African Initiatives also coordinates the Bristol & South Gloucestershire Global Education Network (GLEN). The GLEN links schools universities, local authorities, global education providers and individuals with an interest in global educatio and supports its integration into statutory and voluntary education through conferences, training and other projects. In 2009 it published the Global Education Directory for the South West available for free from African Initiatives.
African Initiatives runs interactive workshops and staff training sessions around all aspects of global education. There is also a Global Resource Centre with a diverse range of resources, a teachers forum and regular Global education E Bulletin.
Working with local partners in Africa means that African Initiatives can bring a unique insight into global education and partner needs and experiences directly influence educatioon work.
